Many patients who have hyaluronic acid gel are very satisfied with their treatment. Although, there are some patients, a lot of time from other practitioners, who are not happy with their treatment. This can be either that the wrong gel has been used or the filler has been put into the wrong place or done with the wrong technique.
So we have a lot of patients that come here to Ethos Spa asking to reverse their Restylane or their Juvederm, their hyaluronic acid gel. This is possible using an enzyme called hyaluronidase. However, hyaluronidase has to be injected and the treatment is only on prescription.
So if patients have a problem with their filler, they Ethos Spa for an assessment and we discuss how long ago they’ve had the filler, what the problem is with it (the filler can be lumpy, it could have shifted or it can be a very heavy filler they do not like). Then we talk to them about what is hyaluronidase and how it works.
Everybody is made up of hyaluronic acid gel and we also have natural hyaluronidase. The difference is with the hyaluronic acid gel that it is syntactically injected as a filler and is cross-linked. Cross-linking means that it only gets taken away by your body very slowly. That’s why we have to inject hyaluronidase.
It’s a very effective injection for reversing hyaluronic acid gel. It’s done under local anesthetic and works immediately. There are potential side effects, such as discomfort of the injection, bruising, swelling and very small risk of allergy, particularly if you’ve had it done before.
This is why it is important have a proper consultation and discuss the merits and problems, or deficits of considering hyaluronidase to reverse your filler. This is because there’s still the option just too gradually let it go away.
