The Science Behind Coolsculpting

Since its approval by the FDA in 2010, CoolSculpting has changed the game in terms of non-invasive spot reduction.  Based on a process called Cryolipolysis, low temperatures are applied to targeted areas. CoolSculpting freezes fat cells, causing no harm to other soft tissue.

CoolSculpting is most effective on people who don’t normally weight problems.  Rather, these are people who exercise and eat well, but find there are one or two areas they can’t change the appearance of.  With CoolSculpting, they can eliminate problem areas safely and without resorting to surgery.

How does it work?

Born in the research facility at Harvard University, CoolSculpting technology emerged when it was discovered that fat cells responded to the application of extreme cold.  Fat doesn’t like the cold and when directly targeted by it in this way, a process called “lipolysis” occurs.

This process effectively kills fat cells.  Surrounding tissue isn’t harmed.  Over time, the body eliminates the fat from these cells, via the immune system.  The result is a tightened, smoother appearance in the treated area.

CoolSculpting is now a widely-favored alternative for spot reduction, due to its ability to target fat cells, while protecting other tissue.  This is not the case with other non-invasive techniques which employ lasers (heat) and other technologies.  This is a revolutionary feature of Coolsculpting.  It is virtually free of risk where other tissue is concerned, like muscles, nerves and skin.

Once fat cells have been frozen through the application of Cryolipolysis, they’re gone forever.  Our bodies only contain a set number of fat cells.  Once they’re eliminated by this process, the effects are permanent, because fat cells don’t grow back, once they’ve been treated.  This is another feature of the technology that makes it a superior choice for spot reduction.

Versus liposuction? No contest.

The grand dame of spot reduction techniques, liposuction can be used on any area of the body, whereas the application of CoolSculpting is more limited in scope.  At the same time, results with CoolSculping are achieved through a painless, non-invasive procedure.

Liposuction (as we all know) is surgery.  It is invasive and involves an incision.  But the most invasive feature of the procedure is not the incision – it’s the cannula.  This hollowed out tube is used to remove fat.  To do so, the instrument is swept back and forth inside the body, causing serious bruising in the process.

Liposuction patients require lengthy recovery times and bandaging is prescribed for several months.  The pain resulting from bruising often results in prolonged use of painkillers, which can affect the stomach lining.

CoolSculpting takes approximately one hour per session.  After each treatment, the customer simply goes home.  There’s no downtime, no pain and certainly no bandaging of any kind.  Once the course of therapy is completed, customers watch as the treated areas begin to reduce before their very eyes.

Whoever said “No pain, no gain”, didn’t know about this revolutionary fat reduction technology, now being used by medical spas all over the world.
