Restylane Side Effects

Restylane is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler. A dermal filler is a substance that is used to add volume to the skin to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and folds. Restylane is the only dermal filler approved by the FDA. It is available as a gel and is given by injection underneath the skin surface. The gel can degenerate on its own underneath your skin, and the results are immediately visible.

Common Side Effects

Restylane’s most common side effects include pain, swelling, redness and inflammation at the injection site. Usuallu, this occurs due to the trauma of the needle being injected into the thin tissues of the face. These side effects should disappear within three to five days after injection. Restylane can also cause a headache, nausea and flu like symptoms. Inform your physician if these symptoms remain for more than five days.

Serious Side Effects

Restylane can also cause swelling (edema) of the face. In some cases, Restylane can cause facial muscle weakness at the injected areas. Restylane can cause potential for allergic reaction although this is quite rare. A more feared complication is possible arterial occlusion and rare reports on blindness. Therefor it is important to goto an expert for your injections.
