PRP Treatment for Scalp
What is PRP and how is it done?

PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma is a nonsurgical procedure used on scalp for hair regrowth. It is called Platelet Rich Plasma because it involves the use of patient’s blood platelets to encourage hair growth. The PRP can be used to stimulate hair growth for hair loss conditions or to increase volume and make thin hair appear thicker.

Human blood contains mesenchymal stem cells and autologous blood products that represent growth factors in tissue regeneration. The patient’s blood is drawn and then placed in apparatus for centrifuge, which separates the blood components and it that way it separates blood cells from plasma and platelets. Then plasma and platelets are injected in patient’s scalp. Since there are no new ingredients being injected, there is no risk of complications. The amount of blood drawn depends on the size of the area that is being treated and the patient’s problematic of hair loss. The entire procedure takes around one to two hours.

Results and Side effects

After first treatment majority of patients notice improvements in their hair growth and their hair starts appearing thicker after few weeks. The hair becomes to grow soon after the procedure. To achieve better results, treatment has to repeat after four weeks. In average patients reach desired results after three treatments. Some patients need more treatments. Right after the procedure many patients experience some itching, swelling, and redness. Swelling and redness resolve as soon as your platelets activate and begin the healing process and encourage hair growth. PRP is a safe treatment for the majority of people but it is not advised if you are trying to conceive, pregnant or breastfeeding, as well for those with the autoimmune disorder, who have had cancer, or have implants in the area that they want to treat.
