Loose, Sagging Skin on the Neck
Loose, sagging skin on the neck can occur as a result of ageing and weight loss however, for some it is just a case of genetics. Loose, sagging skin is caused by a loss of elasticity in the skin and the emergence of the thin bands of muscle in the neck called the platysmal bands. This issue becomes more noticeable with old age although, for those genetically predisposed it can appear as early as the late twenties.
What is PDO Therapy?
PDO therapy is a cosmetic technique that lifts and tightens sagging skin tissues by inducing collagen production. It uses the implantation of fine, absorbable polydioxanone threads into the subcutaneous layer of the skin using small needles. The polydioxanone threads stay implanted in the skin causing micro-injuries. These micro-injuries stimulate collagen synthesis and tissue contraction. After six months, the threads are absorbed into the body leaving new collagen in their place.
The procedure is generally done using local anesthetic, and takes between 45 and 60 minutes. The side effects are minimal but may include swelling and bruising that lasts 2-3 days Also, you can continue with your normal activities immediately after treatment.
PDO therapy can be used on the cheeks, brow, jawline, neck, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, arms, thighs and abdomen. The lifting effect of PDO is at its peak after 6 months when collagen has formed around the threads, and lasts between 2-3 years.
