There are so many treatments available now for acne scarring. Acne scar subcision is a simple in office procedure that can be done in conjunction with laser treatments, derma roller and fillers for maximum efficacy.
What is subcision?
Subcision is recommended to treat rolling or depressed acne scars. It is an in office procedure also called subcutaneous incisionless surgery. The procedure can also be used for wrinkles using a tri-beveled hypodermic needle inserted through a puncture in the skin surface (hence, “incisionless” surgery), and its sharp edges maneuvered under the defect to make subcuticular cuts or “-cisions. The idea of this procedure is to break the fibrotic strands, which tether the scar to the underlying subcutaneous tissue. The depression is lifted by the releasing action of the procedure, as well as from connective tissue that forms during the course of normal wound healing.
What should I expect during and after treatment?
The procedure is performed using a local anaesthetic. Depending on the patients scarring, several treatments may be performed with a 3 week interval. Minor bruising may occur at the injection site of the needle. Expect 3 days of minor discoloration at the treatment site. Subcision is a safe and effective long term treatment for acne scarring.
What other procedures should I consider along with acne scar subcision?
Laser treatments, dermal fillers and even Botox are all additional treatments available to help with acne scarring.
