5 Different Uses for Botox

Botox isn’t just for freezing wrinkles. The powerful neurotoxin, which paralyzes muscles, is widely known in the world of anti-aging, but that’s not the only thing it’s used for.

5 uses of Botox:

  1. Wrinkles

Botox is a purified neurotoxin that works by paralyzing muscles. Wrinkles form due to hyperactive and repetitive facial muscles. These wrinkles become deeper over time as the muscles continue to deform the overlying skin in a certain pattern.  By injecting Botox, the offending muscles are weakened and paralyzed and the overlying skin is allowed to relax.

  1. Migraines

Botox is commonly administered by doctors and plastic surgeons as a viable treatment option for headaches an physician injects Botox mostly into the forehead to relieve pain and tension. Some physicians will also inject it into the neck and shoulders. Botox is thought to eliminate migraines by reducing muscle tension and thus creating less strain on the nervous system.

  1. Sweating

Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) can be alleviated with Botox. Therapeutic injections directly into the affected skin. These injections temporarily block the sweat glands which are responsible for excessive sweating. The injections are generally done in a one treatment session and can provide months of relief.

  1. Incontinence

On August 24, 2011 the FDA approved the use of Botox for treating overactive bladders of people with multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injury.
This new method allows a physician to inject Botox into a patient’s bladder.  This where Botox relaxes the muscles and allows more urine to be stored. Clinical studies have shown such injections could decrease episodes of urinary incontinence for a period of nine months.

  1. Crossed Eyes

Botox has been around since the 1960s and was first injected into a human in 1980, however it was not administered for wrinkle treatment. Instead it was used to treat crossed eyes and uncontrollable blinking. It is still used for these ailments to this day.

Spasms, tension headaches, and wrinkles are all brought about by the same muscle. When used correctly the power to paralyze muscles means Botox can provide treatment for an abundance of ailments!
