5 Big Botox Myths – Busted!

Let’s face it – Botox is an increasingly popular method for cheating time’s traces on our faces.  By immobilizing targeted muscle groups, the appearance of lines and the effects of gravity may be held back.

But there are a lot of myths out there about this cosmetic treatment that need to be put to rest, so we’re offering this post, entitled “5 big Botox myths – busted”, for the purposes of education, for those who’ve been thinking about Botox but harbour some doubt.

1. I don’t need it yet.

Many people erroneously believe that when the lines start coming, it’s time for Botox.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  By targeting areas known to fall prey to fine lines and wrinkles, Botox can help stop them from getting a foothold.

This effect is achieved by limiting the facial expressions known to encourage time to make a home on your face.  Raising your eyebrows and frowning are two of the biggest culprits.  By making these expressions less possible, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles becomes delayed and even prevented.

2. Botox makes things worse.

This is one of the most persistent of the 5 big Botox myths.  People who cease treatments or take a break from them may see the effects of Botox diminished, but their lines and wrinkles will not suddenly become worse.  The face merely returns to its pre-treatment state.

With time, the duration of Botox’s effects (3 to 4 months) increases, as the muscles have become accustomed to being immobilized and have begun to atrophy.  Stopping Botox just means your face returns to exactly its pre-therapeutic state.

3. Great for teens?

At Ethos Spa, we firmly reject the notion that very young people should seek out cosmetic treatments.  Young people in their teens have faces which have not yet settled into the appearance they’ll most likely present until about age 40.

We don’t recommend Botox for anyone who hasn’t yet reached their 20s, when preventative Botox may be practiced.

4. All about appearances.

This one is rapidly being busted by people who seek out Botox treatment for medical reasons.  Botox has been proven to diminish the severity and frequency of migraine headaches.  It’s also used on damaged knees to relieve pain.

Based on the same principle of immobilization as cosmetic applications of Botox, medical applications are making inroads for pain sufferers everywhere.  Botox can even help with excessive sweating!

5. Just for women?

Hardly!  Botox is sought out by more and more men, every year.  At Ethos Spa, our Botox clients are people of both sexes, seeking to improve their appearance, feel more confident and prevent the appearance of lines.

A lot of men want to look their best and feel more confident, too.  They know that frown lines can make them appear “angry,” for example.  Not a good look when seeking a mate, or trying to close a deal at work, right?
